Nintendo has released the newest update for Mario Kart World, and it patches a popular workaround for one of the game’s new features. Players had become hip to the fact that they could avoid “intermission tracks” in online races by selecting the Random track option, but as of Mario Kart World update Ver. 1.1.2, that will no longer work.
Nintendo published the patch notes for Mario Kart World update Ver. 1.1.2 last night. There are just a handful of changes, and you can read them below.

General
- Adjusted courses selected in “Random” when selecting next course in a wireless “VS Race.”
Fixed Issues
- Made readjustments to fix an issue where rate fluctuations were sometimes displayed incorrectly in “Online Play” and “Knockout Tour.”
- Fixed an issue where you sometimes can’t recover quickly after falling off the course in “Dino Dino Jungle”.
- Fixed an issue where you continually hit the wall near the finish line of “Boo Cinema” when transformed into Bullet Bill.
The change to how Random courses work online is a significant change for Mario Kart World. When racing online, players physically drive from one track to the next. This transition is factored into the actual race and are referred to as “intermission tracks.” In an intermission track, players don’t actually arrive at the selected track until the final one or two laps of a race. Players quickly discovered that by selecting “Random” at the voting screen, they’d get to race every lap on the selected track with no intermission section. The new patch removes that workaround and adds intermission tracks to Random selections.
